Just a couple of thoughts,
A #44 lamp rated at 6 volts from Radio Shack will draw about 200 mA from a 4 cell pack (4.8 volt -600maH or whatever).
The twiching servos could also be caused by one of the cells coming apart inside itself, the wrapping separates due to vibration from the engine or damage other ways. This will be noticeable because when the engine is off the servos are stable but when the engine is running they will twich or hunt like the beginning of this thread described.
