Thanks Alan! As the weather gets better I'm feeling more and more motivated to get this plane done! We need to aim for this weekend and have a wing sheeting party! I'll spend one evening to finish fitting the canopy and then I can get my wing cores ready for sheeting. Need to mark out and get the CF tow in place.

We are both in that part of the build where it seems to take forever to make seemingly small progress. Keep making those small steps and we will be covering these planes before you know it! (You too Phil, git'er done! )

I might have to change my screen name to grumpycat! LOL

Kevin, Al: despite the sourpuss expression I really am having fun building this plane

I did the final trimming of the canopy and I sanded a shallow groove in the balsa to allow the edge for the canopy to sit flush with the canopy frame. Once the interior is all finished and painted with the pilot and instrument panel installed, I'll glue the canopy down with LePage 100% Glue and then fiberglass the hatch.

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

I picked up the H9 helmet head on the way home from work last night and discovered that Canada Post had also dropped off a little care package from JR as well! A full box of the new NX6421 servos. Here are some specs from JRAmericas website:

The NX6421 servo from JR is a clean sheet of paper approach to designing the ultimate giant scale servo. Boasting over 500 oz/in torque, the NX6421 is housed in a sleek all-metal case with thicker diameter case pins and a stylish, yet effective, heat sink center case. The helical-cut gears are nearly twice as thick as other servos for more contact area and better mesh for smoother operation and greatly reduced geartrain wear. Additionally, the NX6421 is fully programmable and each servo can be customized and fine-tuned independently of one another.

Featuring automatic output detection, these new JR Smart Servos™ can be used with either conventional (PWM) or XBus installations for ease and flexibility. Programming is simple via your XBus-equipped JR XG-series DMSS transmitter, and not only can servo direction and travel be adjusted, but it is now possible to fine tune holding power, stopping speed, deadband, starting power, total servo travel, create an alarm if servo load exceeds a user-set limit, enable slow start, as well as enhanced failsafe features to help protect your servos in the event of signal loss.

Check out the long allen head servo mounting screws that JR supplies with these monster torque servos!

The inside of the cockpit area was also finished like the instrument panel: a light coat of grey primer followed by a very light spray of Rustoleum "Stone Effects" splatter paint. The white helmet head got his coat of yellow paint and I'll add a few details before strapping him into the cockpit!

Christmas in March.... Very cool looking and sounding servos! You think 7 x 500oz/in will be enough though?? LOL!

I have had several little packages show up recently and they are always a mood booster!!!

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

Ya, it might be a bit sketchy in terms of servo power but I'll have to make do! These servos are FOB and I'll have to track down some English instructions for all of the programming options.

Well, now that we have practiced on mine we will get your wings done correctly! LOL. When I get home tonight I'll post the promised pictures and description of how Alan and I sheeted the wing cores.
