Well if you do, you know where we are. I will also try and follow along with your build and if I can chime in with any hints or tips that I personally use I will do so.

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

Time to get started! The first step in the manual is to assemble the motor box. They suggest a dry fit of the parts first and as the first picture shows, everything slots together nicely. I had to sand the tabs ever so slightly on former 2 but we are talking about a few swipes with the sanding block. I've tacked it together with Express wood glue and tomorrow I'll go over all of the joints with Hysol. I use clamps and some weights to keep everything straight and level while the wood glue sets up.

The manual and reference pictures are not specific to the MX2 and I have discovered a few differences. The manual suggests holding off gluing on the one piece motor box top until later in order to have access to the inside of the motor box (for the throttle servo, engine mounting etc.). The kit however supplies a part with a hatch (not shown in the manual) and a laser cut flange for the hatch to fasten to. This is not mentioned in the instructions but it's pretty easy to see how they intended for it to go together (pictures 3-5).

I added a couple pieces of oak triangle stock to the inside of the motor box to secure the firewall to the motor box sides (shown in the 6th picture). This is not in the manual but it helps me sleep at night

There is also a 1/4" laser cut plywood part (unmarked and not mentioned in the manual) that connects the bottom of the motor box with the fuel tank tray (the last two pictures).

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

Thanks gentleman (you too Scott! )

I mixed up West System epoxy with some Cabisol to make the poor man's version of Hysol! I put the mix into a small freezer bag, nip off a corner and squeeze it out of the bag like a caulking gun right into the corners of the motor box joints. I epoxied on the motor box top (with the hatch) and weighted the whole thing down to set up over night.

The fuselage sides are laser cut lite ply which are glued together in the centre and then the joint is reinforced with a small piece of lite ply. The longerons (3/8" sq. balsa), which will be glued on the top and bottom of the fuselage sides, were glued together with a 3" long scarf joint.

If you are a disciple of TBrum's church of "cutty cutty" you will be happy to note that JTech has already done the work for you! There really is nothing on the motor box or the fuselage sides that I would be comfortable removing!

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

After test fitting the motor box and the formers, (picture 1) the motor box assembly is epoxied to the plywood fuselage top and the formers are glued in place on the fuselage top as well (picture 2). Everything was a nice snug fit with only a few strokes of a file in the odd location.

The longerons (3/8" sq. balsa) were glued to the top and bottom edges of the fuselage sides. I'll let the glue set up overnight and tomorrow, I'll fit and glue on the fuselage sides.

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

It might be hard to see in the pictures in the last post but the very last former (F8 ) was not glued onto the fuselage top. According to the manual this was to be done later. I realized today when I did a trial fitting of the fuselage sides to the motorbox and formers, that once the sides went on, there was no way that F8 was going to go in there! [Kevin - you might want to revise this part of the manual )

I glued in F8 and then, using wood glue, glued on one of the fuselage sides, clamped it everywhere I could and then set up the fuse and weighted it down to ensure no twisting as the glue set up. All of the tabs and slots in the formers and the fuselage sides lined up perfectly. Later, I'll remove the clamps, lay it down on the finished side and glue down the other fuselage side. The clamps and weights will go on again and by tomorrow I'll be able to start with the stringers.
