Hehe, I think Lori has him hanging curtains....

JK! Alan came over yesterday and we cut out his rudder on the bandsaw. He also has the modified shucks for sheeting the turtle deck so we should see some more progress soon!

I contacted Super Dave through his website and he is pretty stoked to having a mini me built of his 2012 scheme! He sent me the three views from the graphic designer along with additional pictures and information. I'm in touch with Eric at B & E Graphix right now to work out the details of getting the various stickers done.

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

Hatch is framed up and I'll edge glue some sheeting for it tonight. I originally thought of using a bass or spruce 1/4" sq. stick for the long stringer that runs back to the turtle deck. Had to go with balsa though because there is a 70 to 80 degree twist in the stick. I think it would be too tough to do it with a harder wood.

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

Spent 2.5 hours tonight setting the horizontal stab. incidence

I use a digital level (Hanger nine) and set the stabs at 0 degrees to the top of the fuselage (which will also be my reference point for setting the wing incidence).

Once the incidence was set and the blind nuts inserted, I added a locating pin (5/16" carbon fibre tube). The hole for the pin was drilled through some holes that were already laser cut in the fuselage. The manual does not mention this locating pin but it is an extra level of certainty for me that the incidence will not change from flight to flight...

Once the stabs were set I had to pull out the rudder and get some shots Think there will be enough rudder authority??

Re: JTec Radiowave MX2 2.8m Build log

Now that the incidence is set I can cut out the elevators and make the TE for the horizontal stab and the LE for the elevators. The 1/2" thick LE and TE parts were taped together and match drilled for Robart hinges and then planed down to shape using the reference lines drawn on the blocks. They were then glued onto the stabs and elevators. I find that its easier and more accurate to drill for the hinges before shaping the balsa.

The hatch sheeting was sprayed with Windex a couple of days ago and then draped over the hatch and taped down to dry. Tonight I trimmed it to fit the front part of the hatch and glued in place with lots of tape and clamps. I still need to fit some 3/32" sheeting from the front of the hatch back to the turtle deck.
