The first plane that I had was the firebird XL. It was OK but you still need a fairly big area to fly it while if you get the bever it will fly in a small area.
I would say spend the extra money and go for the bever

Also If you need a charger I have a GWS charger that I'm not using anymore. If your interested just PM me.

My vote is the Beaver.... probably because I just ordered my first one as well. I was given an Eflite P47 which is certainly not a beginner plane so I am starting with a Beaver and hope to move up from that to my P47 once I have some flight time under my belt and maybe a GWS mustang or corsair in there as well.

I have it on good experience that the Firebirds and Aerobirds (3 channel) from Horizon are good starters as well as they are virtually indestructible.... watched a guy nose in from 100'.... punch out the dent and throw it back into the air.

Parkzone J-3 Cub was my second choice as an E starter only because I got a new JR radio for Christmas and the cub is an RTF
