Canopy color

Hello! I just finished trying to color my somethin extra canopy with the rit dye, but it wouldn't take. I did it the same way on my 4star and it went almost black! Just the way I like it! Anyone else have this problem?
I don't know how else you guys color canopies besides this way, and I like the look of a dark tint or solid color canopy.
Any advice?

I just spray a mist coat of paint on the inside. Testors blue or red work well, and regular enamel works well too. Because its on the inside it doesnt have to be protected and it looks really shiny.

If you mist it on, you can get a coloured look but still see through it.

I have only dyed 3 canopys, all using Rit Royal Blue. they came out ok (but not really dark). I made sure the water was as hot as I dared without distorting the plastic. I made a collar or form of coroplast to support the canopy upside down, then poured the mixed up dye into it. I did add a "glug" (precise measurement, to be sure) of my wife's vinegar from the kitchen when I mixed up the dye. Worked ok for what I wanted.

Maybe I'll try painting this time to see how that works!
Thanks for the replies!

There are two kinds of plastic used to make canopies. (Sorry, I can't remember the names of them at the moment.) One of them dyes easily, the other does not. Looks like you have the type that does not. Go with the painting suggestion.
