How do you set a Jeti Jes30-3p to Soft start ?

I've got a Jeti Model 30-3p Brushless controller and it keeps tearing out the teeth on the plastic sprockets in my GWS speed reducers. (GWS must love me) This is a red coloured ESC that seems to work very well with my HET Typhoon & Nippy Black outrunners but it's hell on my Himaxx motor equiped gearboxes. I've noticed that Jeti sells a similar line of ESC that are covered in blue plastic but I'm not what the difference is (Maybe red is for outrunners and blue for geardrivers) Martin Cloutier of Backyardflying.com suggested that I set the thing up to soft start, the only problem is there's no instruction on the flyleaf that came with the esc in how to do this, all it talks about is setting it to brake on or off. Any help or advice on this issue would be appreciated.
Salutations from the Pacific North WET!
S.P.A.D.s, Fibreglas & Balsa EDF's, Foamies, Brushless powered and nitro balsa planes, they're all in my hanger, just don't explain what it all means to the mrs, eh?
