Engine seals

I fly a Magnum Pro 40 right now. And, I have problem with leaking around where the muffler mounts to the engine, and, the muffler is in two pieces and it leaks around that seal. Castor oil everywhere. Any ideas how I could seal those areas?

It is a bit of a chore but for the muffler to engine faces make up a brass gasket, use about .010" thick brass. After some use the engine vibration causes the muffler to engine joint to become rough due to the two rubbing against each other. Before installing the gasket run a smooth flat file across both faces. Brass shim is available from automotive stores.

For the muffler joint use the copperweld high temp silicone.

If you cannot be bothered to make a gasket and all you want to do is block leaks then just slop the copperweld over everything!

I can't remember what it is called, but I used an orange "rubber paste" from Canadian Tire automotive section. It is in a tube and is high temperature for "gaskets".

It's called liquid gasket; found in the car section. The stuff I had was high temp black.

You'll have to clean the areas real good prior to using this stuff.

Just another tip for the high temp silicone. After cleaning lay a bead on your parts and put the bolts on to align and loosely tighten. Then spread apart with both sides having the surfaces covered. Let sit for a bit until it has started to skim and then tightened. You will get a better seal.
