Re: subs

More correctly, Water Tight Cylinder. A picky point but the first WTC's had all the workings in one acrylic or lexan cylinder. Commercial ones a very expensive and have a major disadvantage over a water tight compartment with flat sides.

Re: subs

I have a wtc in all my subs.. think about the robbe u-47.. it is a tube.. with endcaps to keep the water out.. my la is a lexan tub.. and i have been running that for 10 years. and have not had to go into it once. my battery is in the free flood area.

Re: subs

Thinking about building a sub and PVC pipe seems like a good option for a WTC or maybe acrylic. My problem is I build stuff get it working right then get bored of it and have to move on to something else.

Re: subs

ok the only way i can explain it . is the dumb way.. I am not that smart.. so here goes
think of the wtc.. as the( true submarine )and the hull as the ( fake sub). the water does not go into the wtc.. but it does go into the Hull ( fake sub)
MY la class is 48 inch long.. but the wtc is only 12..
My robbe u-47 is 66 inchs but the wtc is 22.. the forward 22 has water in to. then middle 22 is the wtc.. no water and then the aft 22 full of water. hence free flooding..
does this help?

what you see in the picture is my La..
it has been working for a long time..

Re: subs

if you look at my sub there.. you will see the wtc.. that is dry.. but you will also see is a model airplane fuel tank( ballast tank) everything else is filled with water( free flooding)
when the boat is under.. the only thing that is dry is the wtc.. when the boat is on the surface.. the wtc and the fuel tank is dry. . does that help you

Re: subs

What is in the WTC? Where is the battery and motors located? I understand brush less motors can be submerged with little harm to them is that correct?

Re: subs

Ben
Look at the pic of my LA. you will see the Gel Cell battery in the front of the boat.. in the water. right behind the battery is the water pump and then hooked up to the ballast tank/fuel tank. then comes the WTC. Where all the electronics are.. the Reciever, servos, motor, and anything that has to stay dry..I don't have a switch to turn the boat on.. I just plug in the battery.. My drive motors are in the WTC
