There's certainly tons of space in the nose, and I'm a big fan of usefull weight, i.e. bigger batteries, than lead. I still haven't opened up that insane receiver, two battery leads, 3 satellites, holy high tech batman!

I wasn't sure what to go with, so I took the "overkill is just right" approach.

True enough, and for the money you've invested, it would be silly to cheap out on the Rx. Mains now have the wheels on, but keeping you in suspense till I get the tail wheel assembly attached!

I'm doing my best to eliminate all risks. The only one I haven't found a solution for, is the guy that's gonna be flying it (me)! But I'm working on that angle too

Welcome aboard Roger! You will note that I have "caved" and this beast will be running on gas!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

She's on all gear now, mains and tail. I need to finish the hinges for the horizontal stab, so I can sheet it, install it, and then do the vertical stab. Once that is done, I can run the controls for the elevator, rudder, and tail wheel, then get the bottom bulkheads installed, stringers, and sheeting. This weekend I'll get the engine mounted, fuel system, and figure out the air lines. Plan is to get as much of the internals done as possible, prior to sheeting the forward belly section.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Awesome! Is that Leeann's TF C-182 in the background? Gives an idea of the size.

Roger: I'm going with a Zenoah ZP62. Essentially an electronic ignition version of the venerable G62.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

It is indeed, makes the C-182 look tiny!

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Working on the engine mounting this morning. Will need to get some stand-offs for the mounting bolts, but shimmed temporarily in order to fit things. CDI unit is mounted, and a shelf epoxied in for the fuel tank. Once I've marked all the holes for wiring, throttle, choke, and fuel lines, I can remove the engine, drill those, and carry on with mounting all the gear. When that's all done and checked, I can then remove everything, and fuel proof the entire firewall.
