Fiber Glass Vs. ABS

I am noticing more and more kits, and ARF's coming out with ABS cowls instead of fiber glass. I am looking at a winter project that has an ABS cowl on it, but the rumours about the plastic cracking, is making me second guess it. What are your opinions on this?

I had a Midwest Cap 232 one time with a plastic cowl. It was a piece of garbage. It cracked in no time. If you can go with fiberglass wherever possible. You can reinforce the cowling with fiberglass which helps immensly however it's tough to beat a good fiberglass job. You could always use the plastic cowling to make a mold for a fiberglass cowling aswell.

Actually I think more ARFs come with fibreglass now than in the past.
My first ever ARF,A GP Christen Eagle has struts, pants, cowl, and LG fairings, all in glass.
Plastic cowls dont last, even if you take the weight penalty and re inforce the inside with fibreglass.
Id say bite the bullet and replace the plastic on your ARF or in your kit up front and count it as part of the cost of that particular model when shopping .......Thats how I see it anyway..........
