Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I have made the tail skid/rudder hinge assemble using carbon fiber tube and brass. I crimped the brass tube ends and silver soldered the assembly. The carbon fiber tubes were JB welded into the brass tubes. I also silver soldered the brass rudder hinge tube to the skid assembly. The tail skid assembly is removable and when all bolted up this locks in the entire rudder hinge assembly. This all makes for a very lite but strong assembly. Next I will need to make a mount for the wooden tail skid.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

Gordon, from what I understand the 2 1/4 scale Torrance DR1's, one complete and one still in the box, are now with my dad in Penticton. They will be coming out to Alberta in the fall. I have sent you a PM.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I finished up the tail skid by attaching the bungee cord and tail skid. I added the skid brake by splitting the skid and sliding it in between and bolting it up. I then gave it the colour cote of black.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I painted the Maltese cross on the rudder. I made a template and then used a pencil to make the outline. As usual I used flat black latex paint. Note that the Maltese cross on the rudder of Udets EII does not use the full rudder as other EII's do. I have attached Dan San-Abott's diagram of a standard rudder EII Maltese cross, and the San-Abott drawing of Udets EII for comparison. I have also started to attach the pull/pull cables. I seems like only a few mths ago I was at the same point on the DVII.........

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I have installed the DLE111 on the airframe. I will need to work out where to install the throttle servo etc.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I have been working on the gear, or better yet, trying to figure out how to scratch build it! I have found that MRAerodesign has some parts for his Pilatus kit landing gear assy. that will work well in my application. Essentially the Pilatus gear has the same basic structure and works on the same principle as the EIII. Pics are from RC Scale Builder, builder Teus's Proctor EII, and the only original surviving EII at the British Science Museum.
