Awesome work Scott. That is going to be a real piece of craftsmanship. Can't wait to see more . Think there is going to be a shortage of turnbuckles for a while though ??? Thanks for posting. Glenn

Hi Scott, wow, looking great. The turn buckles must be costing you a small fortune, dle 111, what you figure the final weight to be at? And you bringing it back to Vernon next year for the B.C. Scales ? You did so well this year, going to make it 2 years?
Awesome work , love seeing the work your doing .

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

Thanks guys. I am enjoying this build that's for sure. I will be in Vernon next year for sure, this will be our Team Scale entry for next year. My dad is coming this fall and will get most of the covering done. I am almost considering getting a small lathe and mill for the metal work involved on this model...until then, yes I will need to get a lot of turnbuckles! I cut the cowl down this evening. I used my Dremel with a heavy duty cutting wheel. The engine and the exhausts will be completely covered by a Ziroli Oberursel dummy radial. I thought while waiting for my landing gear parts to arrive I would tackle some of the fuselage sheet metal work.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

Had the pleasure to see this project last week.had a friend up from California and took him around to see some of the scale scratch builders around the area,{few and far between}, Scott is doing an exquisite job on this plane, can not wait to see the end result,, And yes guys a visit to Scotts residence reveals that the man really does live and breath WW1 planes..Thanks Scott the tour was awesome, and my states friend said the invitation to the U.S. Scale Masters event is still open, should you change your mind....

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I'm thinking your next project, forget going up to 1/2 scale, just go 1:1. If you make it R/C, and sit in it to fly it, with a transmitter, do you need a pilot's license, or just a SPFP? lol

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I spent a few hours this weekend cutting out all the ribs etc. I also made templates for the large pieces like the wing tip etc. 1/8 balsa and plywood.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

I finally came up with a plan for the landing gear. As it pivots on three points I need to make it strong whilst trying to keep it lite. I opted for a traditional landing gear block style set up. This required a complete rework of the fuse in those areas to support the hard wood blocks. I used 1/4" aircraft grade plywood and 30 minute epoxy. After it all dried I pinned the whole assembly with wooden dowels and thin CA.
The center "triangles" are 3/16 wire that will be cut and larger OD brass tube will be slid over the ends and be silver soldered. This will give me the scale diameter with the added benefit of strength. The original 3/16" wire will still be inside the full length of the brass tube. The brass will give me a great base to silver solder on the lugs to mount the bottom pivot points.

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII

Started the L wing last night. I use large weights to hold the spars flat. This produces a straight warp free wing. I also use triangle square to make sure all ribs perfectly vertical.
