Quebec, I am bummed...
What is with Quebec these days?
I'm a little curious, and a little dumbfounded as to why Quebec, the St. Laurence Valley area specifically, has seemingly shot itself in teh foot.. This is all about 'Fun Flys'. Why in Quebec (St. Laurence valley), do they seem to keep these a secret? Over the years, it seems that ther are less and less clubs advertising their fun flys. Look at teh MAAC site, and you'll see, what, 5 entries for the whole year.. Even the Provincial MAAC event isn't listed, although it did happen earlier this summer in Victoriaville. The Montreal area has many clubs, and many clubs that have a yearly big event. Yet none of these events are advertised.. Am I not looking hard enough? Or are Quebec flyign sites keeping a low profile this flyign season? I hate hearing about these through 'word of mouth' and being given an invite to 'tag along'.. Sorry that my first post is a rant... |

Quebec
Hi DR,
i am happy to see that one of the St-Lawrence MAAC member has noticed that there is a very small number of events in both Quebec zones that are published in MAAC mag. Concerning the Quebec zone, evey year, i keep telling the clubs administrators to send the informations about their activities in january for publishing it in MAC( model aviation canada). Most of the time, i do not receive the event registration in time from the clubs. Sometimes, i receive it 1 week before the event take place. How do you want it to be published in MAC if i don't know if it will take place. I understand your concern and i also don't understand. The only thing clubs have to do is register on line for the event and sent a short text to advertise their event and they don't do it, or if they do, it is too late. After that, they complain that there was not many pilots at their event. Don't ask what your association can do for you but ask what you can do for your association, or club... I don't know why they don't register in time. Anyway, as zone director, i always try to attend most event i can , every year, even if it is not in my zone. People will have to start to move on, go to events other clubs organize, get the wheel turning, because, in not too many years, we will see our wonderful hobby go down with no more newcomers. I think it has already started. But i do the best i can to activate the Quebec zone, well, i think, and i will try to do more, but, will it change something ??? Friday, i am going to Quebec IMAC contest. I will ask questions again about clubs not sending their events registrattions and see what is going on. Take care |

Could be the times as well. I know my club isn't having as many fun flies as we once had. Other local clubs are in the same boat. Finding folks to organize is one of the issues, available time etc etc.
We end up organizing a fun fly at the last minute as stated and we don't really advertise it. On the up side, you aren't alone. Bob
