Last weekend a member of our club came to the field with 2 extra teenagers. They were exchange students from France. The funny thing was that this member didn't speak french. His wife spoke a bit of french and they were showing the province to these guys. The boys were sitting quietly watching planes fly.

Imagine their surprise when my wife and I started talking to them in french Talk about some welcome smiles; they couldn't believe someone else in Ontario spoke their language (even if it was Quebecois vs Parisien french . I brought out a buddy box and gave both of them a go on my daughter's Avistar.

Doesn't matter where people come from, they are all amazed at how flying the planes just isn't as easy as it looks. They asked about the costs and were telling me that the planes and engines are quite expensive in France (based on some magazine ads they saw) and were surprised on the average cost here. (see? so stop complaining )

We got to meet some polite young guys and were able to give them one more positive experience to bring back home and brag about to their families.

On the up side as well, this also means that the Ajax RC club now has an international training program

C'est vrai, in French RC (RCM) magazines there are WAY more reviews and ads for gliders and electrics. They hardly ever talk about glow as much as the american mags do.
Pilot: Test Flight Ok, but Autoland is very rough.
AME: Autoland not installed on this aircraft.

I had a colleague from Grenoble, France come over on business last fall, and dragged him out to the field one evening. The photos of him flying on the buddy box are on his office wall. I like to think that interlude was a high point of his visit. (Or was it the ribs and corn on the cob my wife served up later?)

It was a fun time for both of us.
