Thanks Steve.
Take that 2K fan and use it in a FF Sabre Phantom Hunter or Mirage and it will be perfect. Same for the R2F Venom. Any jet around 3kg flies great on 2K watts.

Re: Hobby Topgun Mig-15

Today's weather is rather crappy, so has some time to play. After looking at the Mig in it's almost finished state, decided I was tired of looking at it in plain silver with compound and patches. So off to Canadian Tire, spray can of Krylon Banner Red and one of Dull Aluminum. Just about two hours later, a Red Falcon. Still have to mask off the canopy framework and paint it red, but all in all, not bad for a quick paint job.

I'm pretty sure most of you guys have issues with masking tape pulling off paint from foam. Well, check out the Dollar Store, they have Duramax brand tape, $1.50 or $2.00 a roll. It's light weight, adheres pretty good and if you remove it fairly slowly, doesn't lift off much of the paint that it was stuck too. There were some small sections that needed to be touched up, but not much. Also, gives a very crisp edge, I didn't get any bleeding under the tape.

Now, just waiting for the postman to deliver the new nose gear strut and get it installed.

Re: Hobby Topgun Mig-15

I'll have a few shots of Vodka before I maiden comrade Tom, just to put me in the mood

Also, tested the system with an 8 cell battery, pretty good results, 85 amps and produced 2245 watts. I checked the information sheet as I once thought the motor was good for 85 amps but, the motor is rated for a max continuos of 90 amps so no worries for over stressing the motor.

Also, the JetFan 90 is super smooth, cannot feel any vibration at all, just a really nice sound.

Another plus, I now don't have to add any extra weight in the nose to balance the model.

Still waiting for that nose gear strut from Hobby King. They advised they sent it and it's in country.........I hate waiting, don't you...... well, I'll finish installing the servos in that Mig-25 I designed, hopefully will get both ready at the same time.

Re: Hobby Topgun Mig-15

The nose gear struts arrived Friday, the quality of these inexpensive struts is much higher than the ones that came with the model, well worth the wait. Just had to redrill the pin hole to 13/64" which is ever so slightly larger than the 5 mm pin in the retract unit. Another plus, the stock oleo weighed 1.9 oz whereas this new one is only .8 oz and that's including the wheel.

The model now rests with only a slight nose high attitude so it shouldn't balloon into the air on takeoffs.

Will finish up the little things and have it ready for next weekend.

Re: Hobby Topgun Mig-15

Well, that's food for thought JC, but my schedule is pretty crammed this month, I'm lucky to get to my home field for a flight or two, oh, haven't had a flight since returning from California, I'm doing this retirement thing all wrong I think
