Re: Top Flite T-34

Hey, whoah, I go away camping for a weekend, and everybody just busts in here and hijacks my build thread with trivia, and supposition on the origins of yellow SAR Aircraft? Really?

COOL! lol Have at it! Great entertainment, and always up for more trivia.

Re: Top Flite T-34

Question for all, anyone convert the TF T-34 B into a Turbo Mentor? The 3 foot extended nose on the turbo would put the engine far enough ahead of the gear to allow it to be mounted inverted, would just have to move some gear around to bring the CG back to where it should be, would also allow room for the fuel tank to go fwd/aft, vice sideways. Fuselage strakes would be added, and strakes to the horizontal stab as well. Thoughts??

Re: Top Flite T-34

Tonight, i ran all the servo wires on the T-34C for the ailerons and flaps, as well as test fitting the landing gear, and running the air lines. Gear rails were already glued on one side, I prefer to fit everything prior to glueing. Not as big a deal with most air systems, but on electric retracts, a bit of twist in the frame, and they won't work. Installing the gear, then glueing the rails in, ensures they sit flat. Also easier for attaching air lines, and snaking things through. Second shot, the fuse, with the interior cockpit sides, back, and floor all installed. I had to re-sheet the fuse aft section, the sheeting wasn't fully glued along all the stringers and bulkheads, so to play it safe, pulled all the old sheeting off and replaced it. The forward section was nice and open, so it was easy to run thin CA where needed, and any gaps were filled with sawdust, and thin CA. Wing outer panels came sheeted on top, had to run beads of glue along all the ribs, the old ambroid glue had some issues, but with the bottom section open, it was a pretty simple fix. Tail feathers are removed, this will have a gasser, and I know how Marc flys, so beefing up all the support for the Horizontal stab, and the vertical stab on the T-34C is different than the B model.

Re: Top Flite T-34

I'm saying you are skilled enough to wring out the maximum potential and structural integrity of the design, of course! lol Got one aileron cut out this AM, and the outer panel up to the aileron servo hatch sheeted, should have the entire undersides done by the end of the week, then next week sometime we'll tee up for the glassing!

Re: Top Flite T-34

That's going to be an awesome plane when it's finished! Dave & I were looking at it after we'd gone over the Wildcat.

Of course the RCAF scheme won't be scale on a turbo Mentor... But I won't tell

Re: Top Flite T-34

It won't be the RCAF Scheme, there are a pile of great ones for the T-34 C, I like one that's white undersides, blue uppers, with invasion stripes, that's used as a range control aircraft, think Marc wants something else though. Of course, I'm in possession of it! lol

Re: Top Flite T-34

Here's the Light Attack Wing One T-34C paint scheme that Dave was looking at.

Dave, that's an even better scheme now that I found a picture of it
