Re: Top Flite T-34

Here's the T-34 we're now looking at. Think it's great looking, should be very visible, and unique. All things I like in a paint scheme!

Re: Top Flite T-34

So, once again, I find myself shaking my head at robart. The uber expensive custom retracts they make for the T-34, on first glance, are great. For installation, they made certain that you have to notch out the smaller of the two gear rails, due to the location of the air nipple. Thanks Robart, for making sure the weakest part of the system has to be further weakened. Then, they make sure that the 1/4 in diameter axels, of very nice hardened steel, are just shy of 1/2 in too long. Unless they want them poking up through the top of the wing. I get it if I'm buying generic gear, that I'm going to have to do some fitting, but this is specifically made for this aircraft. Second plane I'm working on this week, where I'm frustrated beyond belief at the insane expense, without the expected quality, and engineering. This is why I refuse to by Robarts for my own plane, and use other brands of electric retracts. Sadly, for planes like Kevin's F4F, you either buy their stuff, at great expense, or buy their stuff, and then double the cost to have it re-engineered into a smooth working, well fitting electric system. Rant over! I must go break something now.

Re: Top Flite T-34

OK I'd love to post photos, but when I go to the album, and open it up to download, I see blank folders, then next time, some photos, while others are blacked out, close it down, try again, more blank folders. Seems RCC still having some issues!

Trying this again, all six pictures on the download screen are blank, so will preview, and hope they come up!

Re: Top Flite T-34

Your build is looking great Dave! Your rant on Robart gear is one of the main reasons my Ziroli Staggerwing kit remains NIB! As far as I can tell Robart is my only choice for some really expensive and fussy gear

Re: Top Flite T-34

We have some incredible machinists at the Shearwater Aviation Museum, if one had some really good scale drawings, it might be possible to get something built. One of our local guys, Al Coolen, does his own custom retracts, but he doesn't have the time to do orders, unfortunately.
