Hey there. Can someone with a hanger 9 or other .60 size mustang give me the measurments of the cowel? I have an old royal kit I'm rebiulding, the nose was balsa. Now I want a fiberglass cowel, but I'm having trouble finding one.

Re: p51 cowel.

Full cowl or partial cowel?

I have a TF mustang with an FG cowl, but the cowl is only the lower half.

the upper half of the cowl is wood sheeted that extends right to the spinner, the lower cowl crews on below.

I can take pictures of a tape-measure of the diemensions of the firewall and cowl if that would suit you

Re: p51 cowel.

It would be a full cowel. The nose is very short only 6 inch long , 4 inch wide and 5 3/4 high. I think I'll have to find one close and modify it. One of my club members crashed it a couple of years ago I gave the left overs to me. I if I feel like it, it may fly again this summer.

Re: p51 cowel.

It's a Royal kit, ergo would be a balsa cowl. For a one off, I'd just by some blocks, and build one, most royal stuff would have 1/2 fixed, around the underside of the engine, and the upper side removable using a couple of dowels and screws. Fast and simple, just creates a bit of balsa dust in the process. Once it's done, slightly smaller than you need, layer up some glass cloth, with epoxy resin, and let it dry. Then you can dremel out the balsa, and you've got yourself a glass cowl.
