Electrifly aka Flyzone L39

Helped get an older Electrifly L39 back in the air for a friend.
It was originally powered with a 3S motor but thanks to another member here on RCC I put in a 4S setup. This 4S system is what the latest version of the plane comes with. It is now in a sport paint scheme from Flyzone.
I only had a 30amp RCTimer ESC so I was surprised to see the current draw at 37amps on 4S. The ESC is rated to 40 for 10sec bursts so I did more testing with a few batteries and found it doesn't even get hot. Only very slightly warm during all test runs. It helps that it is mounted in the duct just ahead of the fan shroud. The extra weight of a Graphine 4S 2200 battery had to be balanced with everything as far back as possible. Even the fan was pushed back in the tail as far as it would go. A Lemon gyro stabilized RX was used which fit into a slot cut into the aft wall of the battery compartment. The Battery is as far aft in the compartment right beside the elevator servo. Tight fit but works.
The plane has more than 1:1 thrust so launching is easy. I held the plane by the top and threw it underhand at an upward angle of about 30 degrees. The plane goes like a bat out of hell at full throttle. Loops are easy at half throttle and it is fun to go WOT straight up. The hardest part is keeping the plane close enough to see it as it is so fast. Very close to 100mph is my guess. The little 55mm fan was dynamically balanced but it still is a little noisy at WOT. The plane slowed down nicely for belly landings.
Fun little plane if you can be lucky enough to find one.
Zen thinking * It's rebuildable till it fits back in the box. **

Very good Eric, unfortunately, too small for my eyes to keep track of. 😎 I think I'll dust off the twin 50mm Arrow tonight and have some fun as well this weekend.
