OS 91 FS valve spring breakage

Last time I went to fly my P-47 with above mentioned engine it became obvious that something was not rite! U guessed it, was a broken valve spring. A friend was able to find some Thunder Tiger springs seem to be a little stiffer. I use a 13x8 apc and 15% coolpower. Just some notes to share. Oh yeah, the engine does get abused in screaming dives

Hello; Well I guess you've found teh breaking point of that engine, over-revving. That is a good engine but I suppose valve springs are a safety valve that blows to save more expensive repairs.

Comes down to; if you over rev it this will happen again, you have to put more prop on it. Try a 16x6 or a 15x8. Oh yea pull the throttle back when you are in a dive.

I would get the OS parts to eliminate the doubt that the part will fail again.

Be careful if you're doing teh job, don't lose the spring keepers, they're tough to find on carpeting.
