You guys know how the FAA is getting stupid on RC flying, right?

Well, at the Nashville airport, there is an RC flying club just short of one of the main runways. I've looked out(down) the window just short of final on several trips there and here are these guys flying their planes UNDER the approach path. And I would say we were no more than 1000' high just before landing. From my perspective, the models were well low, far down below. I'm sure they have permission to fly there and I'll bet the club is really strict on altitude control. But it is a far cry from "forget it".

Best advice if you are under the flight path is to make sure you stay well low of the traffic, Keep and eye out and stay clear, and by all means contact the local airport so they know you are operating there and can advise you accordingly.

Wow! Almost $200K. Is this an R/C related incident?

Re: Flying near airport

I'm probably out in left field. But if it is a municipal airport and dept. of transport is notified it is put in the pilots handbook. Or am I too far back in the old world?

Re: Flying near airport

If the airport manager chooses to put it in the notes in the CFS they can. They can issue a NOTAM as well.

Ours does not mention the model aircraft club but it does mention the migratory birds that like to hang out on the runway.

Re: Flying near airport

The army was on manoeuvres in our area and we had two army and one search and rescue heli in close line a stern formation fly down the western approach and down our runway at about twenty feet, our field was about five miles from a major airport that has a ten mile radius control zone, so notams do not mean a thing. Unless you receive notice from the airport just do your thing and pretend they do not exist. Limit your hight.
