BH Fieseler Fi-156C Storch 112''

Has anybody flown one of these particular models of the Fieseler Storch? I think they are both beautiful and ugly, and have been toying with the idea of building/acquiring one. I see this Black Horse Models one has been discontinued, but maybe someone has tried one, has one "stored away". or knows where there might be one. Even damaged but re-buildable would be considered.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Re: BH Fieseler Fi-156C Storch 112''

One of our locals build a Storch several years ago (scratch build)- it was quite the item at the field.

Mainly because it was such a unique looking plane.

Once the novelty wore off I looked carefully at the Storch and realized that what was special about it, was the landing gear... very odd. But they were functional and worked extremely well.

Then there were the Leading Edge slats... designed to give maximum lift at slow speeds.

OK this plane was one of the first STOL ACs out there! (Short Take Off and Landing) and it worked very well...

However - once in the air it just putters along like a Cub.

Which is EXACTLY what it was designed to do.

So; if you are looking for a unique looking Gentle Flier that has STOL capabilities... this is the plane for you.

Re: BH Fieseler Fi-156C Storch 112''

I've built and flown various sizes of Fieseler Storch's and they are exactly as Robert described....good for STOL and puttering around. You have to be a good rudder man to fly one of these properly. One common misconception regarding the Storch is the leading edge slat is not moveable...some ARF's have this as a moveable part....... They were fixed as were the slats on the horizontal stab. If you watch actual videos of the full size you will see the gear oleos have a lot of movement to absorb the "impact" of short field landings. The ARF's seem to have a very rigid gear. They definitely are a show stopper at the field as they are unique that's for sure!

Dennis Bryant has a great plan for a 96" Storch distributed by Bob Holman. You can also get a short kit, cowl and gear set from Bob.
