As I was saying in my previous post Fodder, If you have your engine tuned properly and prime it properly, you will very rairly if ever get a kick back when using the starting method I was taught to use! Priming and snapping it back against compression seems to prevent kick back for the most part. I'm not saying it won't happen but this method almost totally prevents if from happening, I have found in my personal experience anyway, even with my biggest Saito, a 1.80.

[quote="Gary Maker"]Two stroke engines are good but once you get that plane up and flying and hear the sound of the four stroke zooming by, you will be wondering why you never got one sooner and you'll definitely be hooked on them."

I have an old Goldberg electric cub modified with barn door ailerons and an OS .20 4 stroke inverted. on a 3200mh onboard glow system(needed nose weight anyways). Man it sounds nice on a low and close flyby with a super low idle b/c of the constant glow.

Ohhhhh the sound!!!!

Its just amazing how good that sound is, and the plane looks great, a real show stopper. Its my first go with retracts as well, so I'm still grinnin from the flying today. How do I do this full time? :P

Four stroke engines

I have owned four engines and love them for both sound and torque power. Yes they do backfire and kick like a mule. One thing if you are throwing props make sure you tighten down the prop nut with wrench and not that small 4 way wrench that the hobby shop sell [will not tighten enough] Do not try to squeeze the last rpm out but run it on the rich side of top rpm , back off and they will last a life time. My OS engines like to start wet ,choke till fuel runs out of carurator then turn over to make sure that it turnover freely then put on the glow plug heater then use a starter to get engine started.
