OS Gemini 160 Twin Troubles

Hello gentlemen, I have a OS 160 gemini twin that I am having problems with. I received this engine in a plane from a friend and it starts, runs and idles like a dream....however, if I lift the tail up a little past level, like the position that you would be in while landing, the engine slows, coughs and dies. We are struggling to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.

Peter

Re: OS Gemini 160 Twin Troubles

Tank maybe mounted a little high. Low speed needle a little too rich.
Look at these first and if problem persists install a Perry pump to help regulate the fuel.
Also is the fuel line standard size or large ID.
Are you using OS type ''F'' plugs?

Good luck Pete!

Bill

Re: OS Gemini 160 Twin Troubles

Hi Pete, How about an on board glow driver that comes on at about 1/4 throttle? I have a tank very high in the Aeronca C3 but it has to be there. The glow driver works very well on it. I have also put a glow driver in my Fokker Eindecker with an OS 240 for power. The tank is at a good level on that one, I hope.

I've seen several OS and Saito 4-Strokes that ran better with no exhaust pressure. You may need to richen up both needles though. Cheers Floyd

Re: OS Gemini 160 Twin Troubles

Standard fuel line Pete. The tank is quite low and certainly not too high which I thought might be one of the problems.
I would say an issue with the pick-up inside the tank now.

Re: OS Gemini 160 Twin Troubles

Ok...so I pulled the tank out and everything looked great. I found what I believe was a small air leak around the fuel filter. I could see fuel bubbling slightly when it passed the filter. I removed it and replaced it with a new piece of fuel line from the tank to the carb and it seems to be good now. Let's hope for the best as this is another one of Bob Johnsons Aluminum masterpieces. Thanks for the help gentlemen.

Re: OS Gemini 160 Twin Troubles

Not your average arf there Peter. I'd say you want that engine to be perfect before the next flight.

It's insane! The pucker factor will be quite evident on the maiden Pete.
