Re: MIDWEST Super Stinker Biplane

Grant. I have a DLE 30 with the wrap around Pitts muffler that swings a 18 x 8 at 7600+ rpm's. Think this should pull it pretty well if I manage the weight properly. What do you think?
Also have a DLE 35RA in my Stinson SR9 that I could pull out (30 would be lots for the Stinson)

Re: MIDWEST Super Stinker Biplane

......if I may....

I converted my MW 'stinker to gas (Mintor 33) which is similar to the DLE 35 for power and weight. I did a ton of research and came to the conclusion the gas is only slightly less powerful and roughly the same weight as the Moki 180 it's designed around and swings the same prop.

The only real mod was having to move the firewall back 1/4" to accommodate the rear carb, but you'd catch that during construction

With the Moki, it was an ANIMAL; far more performance than I could fully make use of but was also a fantastically astounding consumer of fuel, lol . I haven't actually flown it with the gasser yet but I'm sure it'll be fine. It was never a 3D airplane to start with...With weight management, a smaller fuel tank, modern lighter batteries, servos, etc.

This is a screaming deal on a incredible airplane, and Grant is an amazing guy to deal with....

Re: MIDWEST Super Stinker Biplane

Thanks for the reply Trevor. Confirms what I believed. The DLE engines will be a great engine in this plane.
And yes, Grant is a great fellow to deal with.
