I assume you have already checked Home Depot and Rona with lirrle success?

How about Home Hardware or perhaps lookup a furniture refinisher in the yelow pages and see if they can supply a source.

Waterbase Varathane should be easy to find. I have used it for the same thing and it worked for me.

I saw some in Canadian Tire.

Could I ask what your application is? From your original post I am guessing you might not be satisfied with the end result.

The really hard stuff is the formula used for FLOORS. It is much more expensive, and Varthane does sell it--in quarts if you can find it, but it's not easy. It is about $30 a gallon (USD), and a quart is about half that. On line, doitbest.com had it a couple of years ago, but you have to be careful to sort through the different versions to get the FLOOR type, not the furniture type.
If it doesn't stink, it's not a diesel.

I have a spray can of it in my hand right now. It's called Varathane diamond wood finish. The bottom of the can is blue the top is black. My can is for interior, the UPC code is 26748 20028. The website is www.varathane.com. I beleive all the Diamond Wood Finish products are water based. On the can just under the Varathane name it says Crystal Clear Waterborne, in small letters. I finish my furniture with them and find no real difference in the quality from oil based to water based, until cleanup time, water is way nicer. I live in between two small towns of 700 people and can purchase these products in three seperate stores, so you should be able to find them in larger centers. Look at the cans closely, the Crystal Clear Waterborne, part of the label doesn't exactly jump out at you.

Good Luck

Hmm, Wonder what I can build from that shrapnel?

I picked up a can at Home Depot two weeks ago. They had it in the wood stain articles.

This is the product referred to

and it's used instead of dope/resin when glassing the bird.

Find a detailed method here:

If you want to fibre glass a foamie, water based Varathane works just as well as minwax. You can get it in Canadian Tire.
