i'm a beginner in the rc fixed wing field. I can build pretty good.I also
have a good instructor. I have solo with mixed results: no consistency.
A friend gave to me a iMac 8.6 and I'm on the WEB since then.
During winter I could really use a flight sim to hone my skills but
I understand there is not much software designed for MACs.Can
somebody help me out!

The only flightsim I know of for Mac is X-Plane. It's not R/C but rather full scale realistic. Doesn't have the eye candy of the Microsoft ones but it's supposed to have excellent flight dynamics. It's $50US and comes on one DVD or you can download it. There's a free demo.
Depending on the system, it needs an 800mhz PowerPC CPU (G4 Class), 512mb RAM, and at least a 16mb video card.
The problem with Macs is they're pretty sad when it comes to games. That's why there aren't many. A full scale sim will help because the principles are the same. I use Microsoft FS2004 myself. I can't help much more because I don't know your computer specs. If you don't know, there should be a System Specifications window in the Apple menu.
