I know two guys who were beta tester and are still flying them. They are very happy with them. For the price and features, these should kill spektrum and take a big bite out of the high end tx market.

I tried a couple quad flights on one unit.

As a thumb flyer with small hands, i found the radio quite thick, and i was not able to get to the corners of the gimbals easily with my thumbs. I had to alter my finger grip around the back to the point it felt precarious!

For my flights, the sticks were short as possible.

I heard last week (second hand) there is a way to change the gimbal from the inside of the tx, that allows further shortening. But i cant confirm this.

I only flew quads with it Horus and it was relaxed flying. I am certain i would have great trouble doing sustain rollers with my 3D panes, with the ailerons pushed full left and stroking the elevator!

Its a great improvement over the Taranis. It comes close in most ways and i think in a couple ways surpasses some of the high end units.

!!!But this is a TX everybody should feel before buying! I think it will be very awkward for some thumb flyers!!!

Re: FrSky Horus Tx first production run being delivered

The Beta units had long sticks, the production units remedied that by putting in shorter sticks. It was one of the items identified early in the dev cycle.

I have Development Unit 5, and I'm happy with it.

I do find these sticks are very short, maybe shortest stock sticks I have ever seen. i have no trouble pushing to corners with hands wrapped around.

Electric flying is pretty much seeing how close to a dead short you can run without setting it on fire.

Didn't know there was beta and dev versions.

I just checked with my friend.

To clarify my comments, the unit i flew was a dev edition. So if the sticks haven't changed again, my observations are still valid for the commercial version.

Re: FrSky Horus Tx first production run being delivered

Development units came out in 2 batches. First batch came out in November 2015 to a select few groups of people globally.

2nd Batch came out in May, the ones that came out in may fixed all of the HW Internal Issues, and we focused on Software refinement and HW Nuances that were missed on the first round. This batch is what the production is based upon. The internal IXJT RF section was / is super stable.

It was during the 2nd batch where the items below (not limited to) were identified and incorporated into the Production version:

Stick Length
Rubber Feet
Power Switch Cover
Detents not lining up with marking on the 6 position switch
Rear Case Module bay too tight for some modules

The list goes on, but please rest assured, other than the firmware, the HW portion is bullet proof and Frsky have incorporated the changes to make this radio something special at the price point.

TTFN

I can only imagine how many different Tx designs there would be if we all could have the hardware exactly as we want. Unfortunately we are not all radio manufacturers.
Finally got to see for myself the screen with sun shining directly onto face.

Let me assure you, there is NO angle that it can be facing the sun where you cannot see the screen perfectly clearly. Even if you turn it in to a mirror and place ball of sun directly reflected into your vision you can see everything around the ball. Blows the doors off MZ-24, the only color screen I have had any amount of time with outdoors.

Speakers are blow your doors off loud and clear yet can be modulated nicely.

The haptic is perfectly calibrated to be effective without being annoying. If OTx makes it stronger I will turn it down even a bit more. X9D+ is actually a bit too much. I think the dampening effect of the case is perfect.

Re: FrSky Horus Tx first production run being delivered

Even with Polarized lenses you'll be able to see the screen, the polarization of the screen is actually diagonal, so that it'll be visible when looking straight on.

Thanks for testing, keep it coming.

Re: FrSky Horus Tx first production run being delivered

I myself prefer long sticks as I am a pinch flyer. Are the sticks able to adjust "up" a fair amount?

Great review! Thank you.

Re: FrSky Horus Tx first production run being delivered

The sticks adjust upwards, they use a standard JR 4mm thread, and lots of places sell custom sticks if you need super long ones. But the stock ones extend far enough.

RICK,

Buy my Taranis!!! I'm going to be putting it for sale now that the NDA and Horus is released!!
