Collingwood Slope soaring

I am hoping to do a run to Collingwood again if we get some good north winds. Looks like this Thursday, Friday has good winds forecast but not sure if I can play hooky this week.
I will keep this in mind till it gets too cold. I've flown in October before. Would be great to hook up with others interested in sloping. Search Collingwood here, I have a few threads on sloping .

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

I'd love to slope... Collingwood's a lengthy drive for me, but if it's a real slope I'd definitely be interested sometime!

Cheers,
J

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

Yeah I have a 4 hour drive but when the wind is good its amazing. I soldered up a new RX pack for my M60 Moth and have to re-balance which sucks because its really sensitive on the CG and throws as well. I see the Weasel is back in production by Dream Flight.

As a refresher there is a parking spot on sideroad 21 on top of the hill where the access road leads to the site. 21 runs between Hwy 2 and 15. Its a 2km walk, and after 1 km you can take a right and hook around ( Pink trail ). Its less climbing than going down past the wooden deck ( Yellow Trail ) but they both get you there.

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

Cool, thanks for the trail details. Looks like I won't be able to make it this week ... plans with the family already. But I'll definitely give this a try as soon as I'm able!

Any problems with property owners?

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

The road in is an access road for farmers so you can't block the road by parking on it. There is a hiking trail system that goes through the area and people hike the hill. The hill is Georgian Peaks . I've parked at the bottom a few times and climbed up.

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

Thanks. So given I don't have an off-road vehicle, just a Dodge Charger, where on your picture with the trail lines on it would you suggest would be a good spot to park? (I'm assuming on the side of a road somewhere.... but from the videos I saw of you on your bike, that dirt road was lined with trees.

Cheers,
J

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

Best is to park where the trail starts off Sideroad 21. There is a wider shoulder there and quite often other cars parked there. I took my van up the trail once but it was a muffler dragging experience. There is a rocky hill near the start and mud near the end.

Bit better winds on Thursday but overcast, so Friday would be probably a better choice as it stands now, but the forecast can change overnight!

Re: Collingwood Slope soaring

Today would be great winds but overcast. The view is breathtaking on a sunny day which it's supposed to be on Friday. Lighter winds however, but the north direction looks locked in. When there are 3 days of north its usually more reliable.
I did some sheitty test flights off a toboggan hill last night. I think I will try to go on Friday.
