Set your low idle and idle up in the tx at the end of a full flight when the engine is hot. The idle will be lower when hot. Tweak the low idle trim after the first flight of the day. Then your good for the rest of the day and probably the next couple sessions.

I do the same set up as John suggested on all my planes.

Re: engine dies every landing

Not to high jack the thread but, I'd like to learn John or Jeff could you do a little run down on what to do for set up? I run a dle 20 on a extra 300s and very tired of it dieing. Cleaned off my landing gear last flight was not happy!!

none of the recommended adjustment worked, and a lot of suggestion from here on the thread and on the field made significance. The engine does not die on the air, and i had no single dead stick on all the flights. but i was always prepared my self for a 1 shot on landing every time. i was on route to change the plug, but run out of day light. By that time i have all my flights for the day anyway.

Re: engine dies every landing

try a heavier prop ,like a carbon fiber prop or a heavy spinner. small engines don't have much of a flywheel effect and lightweight wood props won't help .the more mass you have on the crank the more stable the idle will become. if the engine is close to it's lower limit for idle and then bumps the ground it's likely enough to shut it down . I would try a lower pitch carbon prop so you can raise the idle and still be able to go slow enough to land. You may also want to check your throttle linkage it could be flexing when hitting the ground and closing the throttle . just some thoughts ,cheers Roger

Re: engine dies every landing

i had a 20/8 classic master air screw, on it, i thought it's a bit too heavy, but it pulls the plane with no problem all day.

Romeo

I was thinking right from the start, maybe its the prop. Sounds a bit too much for me,
but that's just me. I have a Menz 18/10 if you want...send me a PM

Re: engine dies every landing

I apologize if I missed it, but did you try increasing the idle speed? This same thing happened to a member here and it was that simple cure. My gas helicopter is the same way. Where I have the idle initially set, it's a bit on the high side and the clutch does grab. I let go of the blades and they have a pretty good spin to them. After it warms up to the grab is less. After a few minutes of flying and it's thoroughly heated up, I can set the helicopter down, pull to an idle and it's turning a MUCH lower RPM to the point where the clutch isn't even close to grabbing and the blades come to a stop. If I were to set the idle on initial startup that low, it will shut down the engine when warmed up.
