Re: Power supply repair?

Well you haven't told us much about the make and model of power supply.

In this day and age at the price points they're sold at relative to repair technician hourly rates, they're pretty much disposable items, unless somebody is doing repairs as a hobbyist.

If it's an old linear style power supply made up of discrete components there is a fair chance it can be fixed. If it's one of the newer switching style supplies good luck. The general lack of documentation and the use of proprietary components make repairs almost impossible by anyone except the manufacturer.

So the moral is either buy a cheap supply that you can afford to trash or a high quality one that will last awhile.

Re: Power supply repair?

You could convert a computer power supply for under $5.00. The high out put rail will get you 15 to 30 amps at 12 volts depending on the unit. Cheers Floyd

The one I have that seems to be dead is half of a 24V combo that I got from Solid hobby. (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1786965)

Re: Power supply repair?

They look like server power supplies to me.

If you open it up there will be a replaceable fuse or a soldered in one.
Be careful of the capacitors as they hols a nice jolt for you.
