You will be disappointed with the power to weight ratio of a 52 4 stroke
A 40 to 55 2 stroke would make for a great flying airplane

I'll see how it goes. I'm not looking for super high performance, just some casual flying and trainer like performance.

Maybe when I build the second one, I'll up the power. I've always thought of doing one with retracts, thought it might look cool, but ya, would need some lightening, and a little beefing up in the wing.

The Sig kits from that era had a lot of wood in them! Generally pretty good quality wood though.

The ones that really surprised me were Balsa USA. Their boxes were often packed so tight another sheet of instructions would not fit.

Ya, no complaints about the balsa quality. I did swap out one of the 14 wing skin sheets. It was just a totally different hardness than the rest.

Sheeting tip
When you assemble the wing sheeting if you keep 4 of the pieces 1 for each panel and glue these pieces along the angled cut to form the lead of edge of each of the 4 skins this will allow the sheeting to form nicely around the leading edge.

On the Komander, it specified to have the grain parallel to the leading edge. Everything wrapped around quite nicely.

Re: What size engine? (Started Komander build... finally)

Well, weight wise, I think I'll come in under the 5lb 8oz estimated weight. I tossed it on the scale as it sits in the picture, added the weight of the servos, receiver, battery, cowl, spinner, muffler and I'm sitting at 4lbs 8oz.
