Zoneless Box / Presentation Score

As most of you know the IMAC BOD has decided to drop the presentation score. You can now place a maneuver almost anywhere the pilot likes, without any official downgrades.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you would like to see the zoneless box dropped as well, and go back to having the centre maneuver on centre, with a scoring criteria to downgrade accordingly for not doing this? [The way it use to be]

I for one like to see " center manouvers center " .Or at least as close as I can get them . That way I feel I have a reference point as to where I am in "the box ".

I liked to see it dropped. Although I've never flown in a zoneless box IMO one of the challenge of doing RC aerobactics has been removed as now you can place the maneuver were you please. Placing a maneuver in a zone requires planning and lots of practise. If IMAC does drop the zoneless box they are going to have to change there methodology in setting out the sequences especially in the higher levels. For example I challenge anybody to fly maneuver #8 from Advanced in one zone. Its a long manuever and the 8 pt roll is going to cover lots of ground.

In realty experienced judges are going to give extra points to the pilot who centers there maneuvers and flies there sequences as if there are zones.

When I starting flying IMAC, my first impression was, "wow, is it ever hard to do the manuevers in the right spot"
Anybody could do all the manuevers in basic, what made it challenging was to have to do them in the correct location. Learning to do this has made a better pilot of me. I can't see the point in having a zoneless box. They say it is to reduce the footprint size of the sequence, but I can't see that.
We already have box-size limitations, why do we need this?

My vote: Yes, drop the Zoneless box.

So whats the challenge

This is why I like "Precision" Aerobatics over IMAC

I find one of the tougher challenges to fly IMAC was to place the manoeuver in the proper position, centered etc. And I would like to see us do that. It makes for better pilots. Will a judge continue to give higher scores for well centered manoeuvers, sure they will. Because the routine looks nicer.

Thanks for your "encouraging remarks?" Chad! This was my first full year in IMAC and I personally find it challenging, thats why I love it so much!

I have been an RC pilot for almost 14 year now and have made good progress for myself. But I found myself going to the field and perhaps only flying 1 or 2 flights each outing. I know I can fly and burn holes in the sky but the challenge seemed to be lacking! The dicipline of IMAC and competing against myself for the most part, gave me back that challenge! Learning to do a manover correctly is seriously different than just doing it the way I think it should be done! In 14 years I have probably done thousands of loops. Heck, who can't do a loop, right? On my first ever sequence I got a zero on what I thought was a great loop! Go figure that it should be perfectly round and start and end at the same point in space! Not as easy as I assumed!

The challenge to me is to better myself with each round and at each contest! Sure, your competing against others, but its the decipline and the challenge to self that makes everyone a better pilot. In IMAC there are NO losers! Everyone becomes a better pilot and the friendships that I have developed are priceless compared to a hat or a plaque with a number on it! This is MHO only but I know most others will agree with me on this one!

As far as the zoneless box goes, and as being given the priveledge to do some judging at a few contests now, I think that it would be very difficult to say the least, to not have to use some reference point to judge a manover on, like a center line or center point! And although I cannot speak for others, I feel that a good judge who has been doing this for years and years, would as well find it difficult NOT to use a reference point as well, if even doing it subconsciously! At almost every contest we tried the zoneless box at, there was always a question as to how we should judge a presentation and how to say one person's positioning was better than anothers when no two pilots ever flew exactly the same or started and ended their manovers the same! Hope you know what I'm trying to say here!

Again, only my opinion but I would like to see the "Zoneless Box" dropped and continue to do the flying and judging as has been always done! It will indeed continue to be challenging and will look better and be more interesting for all, judges, pilots and lets not forget the spectators!
