DH-100 VAMPIRE BUILD

Well my winter build project has begun. I ordered the Tony Nijhuis kit, plans and landing gear just after the British Lb dropped after the Brexit vote. Also saved a few bucks in dealing with the UK direct rather than thru the USA. The shipping costs were about 200.00 and the two boxes arrived undamaged in less than a week.

The plans and instructions are well done and the quality of the the Balsa and Birch Ply is the best I've seen in long time. Tony's website also has build photos and a time lapse video of the total build.

The landing gear and wheels ( no brakes) are substantial and the Intairco wheels and brakes that came off my Hawker Hunter fit perfectly.

I plan on using a VT80 for power. Colours will be City of Montreal 438 aux. squadron.

The right wing is partially built.

Re: DH-100 VAMPIRE BUILD

Retracts and wheels come as a set from Tony, he doesn't provide brakes as you can see. He says it lands so slow it doesn't need brakes.. I need brakes of compensate for my flying skills.???. Thankfully the Intairco 3.5 inch are a perfect fit.

Re: DH-100 VAMPIRE BUILD

I was sure that I saw this up for sale a few days ago. Glad to see it is no longer for sale, I would sure like to see the build finished with pictures.

Re: DH-100 VAMPIRE BUILD

Back at it after spending time finishing off a very well built Hanger 9 P47 which I obtained from a gentlemen in Quebec in ready to paint condition.

Finished installing the aileron and flap servos, landing gear and wing tubes. sheeted the bottom of the wing and built the aileron and flaps. Separated the wing and installed the wing spars. The inner wing section is only sheeted after the wings have been permanently installed on the fuselage.

Started the other wing.

Re: DH-100 VAMPIRE BUILD

Worked on both wings getting the servos in and the wings covered as far as I could at this time. Started the horizontal stabilizer and elevator. Decided to go with two JR ds3421 mini servos for the elevators. I also decided to equip myself with a crimping tool so I can make up all the Servo wiring to the exact length needed.

Any make of CA glue bothers my sinus despite wearing a mask so i've been using UHU HART and Lepage's White glue. When I get to the fuselage and tail booms I'll be using the LOCTITE system. The elevator hinges are the Robarts round type the same as the ailerons and the flap hinges are the DU-BRO nylon. Looking forward to starting the booms and rudders and then on to the fuselage.
