Need information on battery selection

I am new to electric and have a 80" 7pound Piper Cub ARF which I want to setup with electric power.

After doing a little bit of reading, I'm considering the AXI 412014 outrunner brushless motor and the Jeti 70 Amp controller.

How do I select a battery pack for this combination?
How do I know the voltage required by this motor, number of cells .... etc?

Please advise...

You can also check out the data for the motor. The manufacturers of electric motors usually have charts that tell you what sort of power and RPMs you can expect with different motors, motor winds, prop sizes and number of cells. You will want something that produces a suitable amount of power and pitch speed for that airplane at a reasonable efficiency and at a reasonable current draw.

This 7 lbs, is this the weight of the plane with no equipment? This motor is a 40amp for max efficant> 55amp for 30 sec .Next it is a 16 cell max motor= 1.2vX16 =19.2 or I round off to 20 volts. This plane needs 60 watts of power per lb to Rise Off Grass. So 60wattsx7lbs=420 watts of power to fly.Now prop the plane for a 30 to 35amp static draw which will give you 600 to 700 watts of power.I always do a static thrust pull test too.Tie the tail of the plane to a fishing scale(that is tied to a unmoveable object ) then go wide open.Look at the lbs the scale reads. You want AT LEAST 1/3 OF THE TOTAL OF THE PLANES WEIGHT in static thrust. So if you where rtf at 7lbs you want 2.5lbs of static thrust. At the same time this is all happening look at your ASTROFLIGHT WATT METER to check the amp draw.Until next time......................
