Why don't you buy one from the guy who made the schematic?
He is selling them on his website www.rc-circuits.com

*sigh* I had a writeup on this regarding cost issues as i'm currently going through making up my own nav-light system for my plane.. And then I hit backspace and it for some reason went "back" on my browser and ALL got deleted!!!!!
Anyways. The schematic you are talking about, if you were starting off with none of these components at all in your possession, and would have to purchase everything to build your own, would be much higher than it would cost to purchase from the gentleman selling the item on the website listed in this thread. The programmer alone for these style of chips is going to run you close to the cost of the actual interface itself. I bit the bullet on the cost for building my nav-light system, because I want to be able to tell people that I made it myself if I'm asked about it. Otherwise, I would have bought the curtek system. The choice is your, however, as I said, the price he is asking for the interface is reasonable. |

wow.. I just realized you're from Sudbury.. that's rather odd.. Anyways, since we can talk as locals regarding costs I'll say this.
The only place you can purchase these items for the project here in Sudbury, is Sonic Northern. Rough estimates for cost: PIC16F74550IC (MCU chip) - $12-16 6 x Resistors (varying values) - $1 each 5 x Capacitors (varying values) - $2 each (if I recall correctly) 1 x 28 pin socket - $2-3 ea 1 x Perfboard (from Sonic - $20 for a block) ($4.99 from Radio Shack) 1 x USB adapter (No idea on price) 2 x Unknown items on board. No clue :s Anyways, I could find out some prices for you if you want, as I'm going to be ordering up some more resistors and capacitors in bulk to do some other projects.. I just don't know when I'll be doing that. **EDIT** Err.. not odd that you're from Sudbury.. *sigh* it's late eagle2, which club do you fly at? We probably know each other, or at least have seen each other around town |

Yeah but what about his labour? You are not just paying for parts you know. You are paying for the knowledge or skills that he has but you don't or you would build it.
He isn't giving these away he is trying to run a business. Aside from the componenets listed below he would have to have a printed circuit made to mount he components on as well as the case, cable and conectors.
