Re: Pitts muffler

I think its aluminum. I sent one back to Bisson that had a broken weld and it was cheap enough to get fixed. But from your location you might be better off buying a new one. But if its a factory defect you might have warranty.
Cheers floyd

Re: Pitts muffler

Ok, thanks Floyd, its not factory defect , it was pilot defect. They where the first thing that touched the ground on a hot landing . So I could weld aluminium tubes, all I need is to find a welder...

Cheers

Re: Pitts muffler

Some guys are using an aluminum brazing rod. It requires no flux, but needs to be very clean and a stainless steel brush used while heating. I forget the name of it. I had mixed luck with it, it melts the base metal pretty easily. I guess TIG might work if you know someone really good at it. I think all of my tubes will get trimmed off before mounting on a plane, and rubber extensions used. I have a few broken ones too.

Re: Pitts muffler

I would call around to local weld shops to see if anyone does aluminum. A bit of a specialty.

Once found ask for an estimate. If more than half the cost of new as Floyd remarks may be more economical to replace.

Re: Pitts muffler

I tried that special low heat welding rods, it looks strong, we'll see on the engine later.

Thanks all
