Can somebody give me some suggestions in what to look for in a spray
painting compressor? At present I am using a Miller compressor which I
have used since the 70's.It did an o.k. job as my planes are usually under 60"wingspan.I just used the airbrush that came with the unit.
I think it is time to upgrade.I guess it should have a tank an above all,be
quiet.CTC has a couple of models but as usual nobody knows anything.
I would imagine an auto touchup gun would be the answer for me,the airbrush could used for fine work.
I had great sucess spraying Hobbypoxy with the Miller unit but now I
use Perfect Paint and lately I'm having a problem spraying it.It's
probably my airbrush.
Thanks guys

I have a Pasche airbrush(spelling) and a Brown(gave away) but have for years been using an auto touch up gun. I have 2 (overkill) but you require a separate compressor with a few cfm more than the miller. I find with the touch up gun you still have a small container and adequate coverage for a model. Install a small regulater on your gun as it makes it easier to adjust than chaseing back to the compressor.

I too am interested in this subject I would like to be able to spray my planes with somthing bigger than my small little airbrush. I was looking at the HVLP http://www.nelsonhobby.com/spray.html that nelson produces (and it can spray a bunch of different paints). I build in my condo so I need somthing small enough to reduce the fumes and big enough to paint a 80 span plane.

Some years ago I purchased the Wagner finecoat HVLP unit. It works extremely well. I use the automotive base coat/clear coat type of paint. It is very economical with paint and there is very little overspray, there is some of course. Campbell-Hausfeld also has a similar unit. I use a badger airbrush for trim and lettering.
