MAAc Website Copyright?

What's up with the MAAC website?

Being updated and can't use the old site because someone else owns the copyright to it?! What's up with that?

The copyright notice of the old website stated:
Quote:
All Text and Pictures Copyright © 1996 through 2003, the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada. All site design, graphics and layout Copyright © 2002 through 2003, Glencove Studios, 44 Glencove Drive Ext, Stratford PE Canada C1B 1V2. No reproduction in any form, in whole or in part, without the expressed written consent of the webmaster.
Maybe that has something to do with it? The WaybackMachine has a copy of the old website http://web.archive.org/web/200402161...copyright.html...

Yup! The design copyright was held by the former web master's company. The situation was such that if someone else maintained the web site a charge for the copyrighted design was to kick in. I guess this no longer applies and all that is needed is that the new web master has to work on a different design. I'm not starting anything here. I just would think that the old might have remained up while the new was built in the background.

What's past is past and the promise is a new and improved, so let's wait and see. Hopefully the new won't be long in coming.

Now that the Web has become so important for communication in many cases, perhaps there should be a website committee, or maybe one of the other committees already has that responsibility. (Web committeee, PR + Web, Technology committee??)

Perhaps MAAC should have done some forward thinking and/or planning on this. It certainly gives one the impression that MAAC is not a well run organization.

This is definitely the worst time of year to have the website down.
I often refer potential modellers to the MAAC website to find local clubs, events etc. With the weather turning, this is generally the time I get the most inquiries. I'm sure many others are experiencing the same.

This is the recruitment season!!!!

Based on the information I already pulled, I'm sure you're correct.

I would hope that those doing the work realize that even a partial site (with membership forms and contact information) would be better than a complete site at a later time.

It was posted on another site that Jason was the new webmaster/hoster? for the new MAAC site and that the gentleman from Great Hobbies (Jim Ewing?) was the content individual.

Not a lot of details but change is always good

I may be mistaken, but I did not see anything mentioned in the last issue of MAAC Magazine about the site upgrades or any mention of a down period for the site? Perhaps I missed something? I also have to wonder, would it be so difficult for a member of the MAAC brass...perhaps even the president, to drop a posting on the RC Canada website about such an event? I agree with others that with new recruits looking for information, the first place we direct them is to MAAC. A little em-bare-assing to send them to a dead link don't ya think...

Enough said...........
