Has anyone put a flexable pipe on the a/n engine instead of the stock muffer?

Does it have any negative effects?

What about noise?

I am putting it in my texan and the muffler won't fit in the cowel area without hacking a piece out of the fuse!! Not pretty!!!

Andrew: Many moons ago (circa 1977) I had a semi scale J-3 with an O.S. 40 FSR doing the pulling. One fine day, I just got tired of cleaning the model every time after flying so I got the bright idea that I would run a silicone tube from the exit pipe of the stock muffler all the way back to the empennage, not a very scale-like thing. I realize that what you propose is something different because you intend to bypass the the muffler altogether. Anyways, what did I observe? First, yes there was a substantial loss of power and this is quite logical since you are moving a greater mass of air with every exhaust stroke. Second, the engine was a LOT quieter. Third, there appeared to be no side effects to the engine as that same powerplant then went on to an illustrious carrer pulling a Dirty Birdy around for a few more years.
