Funny story from another forum....

From somewhere in the states:

"A bunch of us went flying tonight at our new field. Flew the Edge around a bit, landed and went over and stood by Jamie while he flew. While he was flying I heard some sirens, thought nothing of it as the Interstate was near by. But a few minutes later, we could see the lights of the fire engine on a road way over the other side of the field. Then the truck pulled down the long road to the flying field (lights are now off). A few minutes later, they pulled up in our parking lot. Uh oh.......apparently someone traveling down the interstate called 911 and reported an airplane spinning down and crashing as they didn't see it come back up. They thought a full scale plane crashed! It turns out they had two fire eingine, two ambulances and a search and rescue helicopter looking for the downed plane.

The firefighters were very nice about it and actually saw some humor in it (as did we ....after we knew they weren't upset with us ). I flew a demo flight for them and they went on there way. Unfortunatly no one had a camera to take a photo of the fire engine and five firefighters at the field. Would have made a nice one for the scrap book. But it will definately be one of those stories we'll be talking about for years

That reminds me of a story I was told by someone in the US about how he was flying his 40% Cap and he came down in an elevator over the runway with smoke on and pulled into a hover over the runway and the smoke was really building up and I guess there is also a highway near this club and a tourist or someone not from around that area had no idea there was a model airplane flying field in the area and called 911 saying that a plane caught fire and crashed right next to the highway

I still like the story I read on another forum about two chaps flying their very similar Piper Cubs simultaneously. One of them landed his, and both walked out to retrieve it

Four of us where in a race (Formula 1) and I can remember it was me who got mixed up. Two of us had very similar colours and I took my eyes off of it for a second going to #1. When they are trimmed out they are like on rails. Anyways when I got to #1 my partner told me to turn which I did. The ac I was flying didn't move. I was lucky as I got it about 200 yards pass the pylon and back in one piece. Learned a big lesson on that one. Also changed my colours.

Great story Ron!

I have actually heard people say that they saw a full sized plane doing all kinds of crazy things and was concerned that the pilot may have crashed. It was me flying my 1/4 scale Cub near town when I lived in Larder Lake.

When I told the fellow that it was a model plane, he said "oh no no, this was a real plane, and I saw it come down in the woods and it didn't come back up!" I took him to the back of my van and showed him the plane and he just kind of stood there with his mouth open for a few seconds and just said "Well, I'll be!" From a distance, they do look very realistic and have fooled a lot of people!
