Well the NOOSE was held this past weekend July 2índ and 3írd in Sudbury at the Greater Sudbury Modelers Club (GSM) in Hanmar and for a first time Open or Fun Scale Event held in the Northern Ontario Zone the feedback is terrific. Gaston tells me the spectators commented on how well they liked watching the scale airplanes trying to do all the maneuvers in their routines. Scale reversing maneuvers not usually seen at fun flys were common because each plane had the whole sky on their turn and were not restricted to flying in a circuit with other aircraft. Three members of our M.A.A.C. Scale Committee attended. Kevin McGrath competed; Con Verhulst was a judge and I was on hand to help the new scale judges and first time competitors.
Because this was a learning process for first time judges and competitors we ended up with a bit of a late start on Saturday. However once underway 2 full rounds were completed and there was even time for a noon time show between rounds with all kinds of aircraft from jets to a glider released at altitude from a powered aircraft. A candy drop had the kids all excited as they scrambled for their share of the treats.
Entry fee per competitor was $5 and there were 10 entries, all except a few were novices to Scale Competition.
First of all I would like to thank the Greater Sudbury Modelers for hosting the event and a special thanks to all of their members who did so much to make it a good time for all. The facilities and hospitality were first class.
We had 5 first time judges and they did a wonderful job and will be an asset to any future scale events we have. I would like to thank them for the help and enthusiasm they showed in judging this event.
Thank you, Con Verhulst from Callander, Ronald L. J. Roy from Timmins, and Don Hughes, Pat Martin and Brent Pidgeon from the GSM host club.
There were trophies for Peoples Choice, Pilots Choice, Best Military, Best Civilian as well as the First, Second and Third for the competition. I addition there was a $100 dollar cash envelope that accompanied First, Second and Third. Also there were enough draw prizes that each competitor took something home.
Peoples Choice Steve Daly Fokker Triplane
Pilots Choice Peter Conquergood Piper Super Cub
Best Civilian Peter Conquergood Piper Super Cub
Best Military Gary Trambley Sopwith Pup
First Place Peter Conquergood Piper Super Cub
Second Place Andrew Cohalic Extra 300L
Third Place Kevin McGrath Spacewalker
Again thanks to the Greater Sudbury Modelers, all of the competitors, judges and the spectators who attended for making this first time Scale Competition the enjoyable event it was.
