Realflight G2 CD help

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
My computer system crashed heavily requiring a complete reload of all my software.
My Realflight G2 won't complete the install process. GreatPlanes tech support says that the CD is likely damaged. There are a few light scuffs and one nick that might be the problem. GreatPlanes says they can't help me because the software is too old (ver 2.00.219) and my usb controller won't work with newer versions?! Does anyone know anything about compatibility between versions?
Any suggestions welcome.

CD Problems

Sometimes when CD's have light scratches or scuffs, they can be polished out. You may want to check with your local music store, they can probably polish them out for you or recommend someplace that can do it.

I've very carefully used car polish and rubbed very lightly and it worked OK.

If the nick or scratches are too deep, and in the working area of the data, it won't help.

Hope this helps.

There is No Compatability between G2 and G3. Your G2 controller will not work with G3 either. If you intend to upgrade to G3, by all means make sure your computer and Video card meet the Optimum requirements, and NOT the minimum requirements or you will have no end of problems. Go to and read the discussion boards. You will see what I mean. Hope that helps

G2 Help

Thanks for the suggestions guys,
sorry I am late responding, summer holidays with great weather means computer time is way down the list.
I have tried the clean and polish route without success. There is a section of data affected.
I am running windows XP, lots of horsepower and video capability. System should not be an issue, it is definitely the disk.
I was not looking to upgrade to G3, Realflight tech support was convinced that my G2 software version was not the USB version, but it came out of the box over the counter at my LHS with the usb controller and has worked fine...until now! They are no longer supporting G2 from what I can gather.
I have a local guru who is wading through the remains of my system (it crashed which started all this) and is convinced the damaged missing info from the cd can be had from the old data.
Thanks for now,
