No, but that would be unreal! I would charge a small fee for cooling off spectators at summer events. Sounds like an excellent entrepreneurial idea.

There was a PBY configured as a water bomber at The Oakville Air show a couple of years back. The field was wet and it had problems getting off the ground because of the weight.

Scale Water Bombers

Knox Hawkshaw of the Bramalea club has three water bombers. They are a Canso, a Twin Otter on Floats and a new one, a Thrush Commander also on floats.

All three are functioning water bombers. The Canso scoops water up through the fuse while the Otter and the Thrush scoop water up through the floats. This means that filling of the water tanks will be accomplished the same as the full size. That's by landing on water and scooping it up into the tanks. All three are amphibious with the landing gear being able to retract. The Thrush holds approximately 17-18 pounds of water, that's slightly under two gallons. The Thrush is currently on wheels while the floats are being built. It is expected that the all-up weight of the craft (ie: plane, floats and water) will be in the neighbourhood of 50 pounds, well within the MAAC legal limit.

A small successful dump has been made with the Thrush but we were unable to get any pictures of it.

I'll try to keep ya posted.

I have the plans and most of the parts for a CL-415. It is designed to scoop and dump water. Also has retracts. The plans and fiberglass parts came from Mr.AeroDesign, laser cut pieces came from the Lazer Lizard in Texas (I think). This will be a winter project, possibly this year but I still need to aquire somemore hardware first. I can't wait to start this one. I know a few on this forum have already built this kit.

Check it out.

Years ago a good friend of mine scratch built a water bomber. Had to be manually loaded with water... but was an awesome site just the same. We took a road trip from Windsor to Sault Ste Marie to get the detail pictures. I'm sure all the old Sun Parlor RC Flyers will remember Chico's CL-215.
