I've had excellent service at zebrahobby.ca with very fast shipping but I bought my first plane and equipment through backyardflying.com out of Quebec, he gave me very good advice. I think that both Backyardfling and Zebra have the best prices anywhere on the net, if you take into consideration shipping.

I'm not sure where in Ontario you are, but if you're passing through Burlington, you should stop at Skycraft Hobbies. I'm all over Ontario for work and I think I've been to every hobby shop at least once. From my expereince, Skycraft is the biggest LHS and they carry losts of inventory including car and marine products as well as pocket bikes. Their airplane selection is excellent with all the newest products as well as some discontinued kits. It's a family business and I always found them to be extremely helpful.

Their address is:

115 Plains Road East,
Burlington, ON L7T 2C2
Tel. : 905-631-6211

Great store for product selection. Plan to spend at least an hour there. Know your prices before you go.

For mail order of electric stuff: www.zebrahobby.ca

I like hobby wholesale as well.

It's all about the prices.

I think you are wrong there. Price means nothing if service is lousy and items are out of stock when ordered but you are not always told about it.

Support your LHS as well or he may not be there when you need him.

It's all about prices...

...once you know what you're doing and exactly what you want. I still need to talk to someone on the other end who can answer some questions and offer guidance.

I started this thread, and now I have acted on the advice given. Here is what I've found:

I've been dealing only with Zebra and Great Hobbies so far, and haven't had the need to go elsewhere yet. They sort of complement each other.

GH is the place to go for more a wide catalogue of traditional hobby supplies. No-hassle return policy, fast shipping, really seem to have their 'stuff' together. Tech support is very helpful and can also take your order after answering your questions.

Zebra will help you configure a brushless system with the correct battery(ies), motor, ESC and prop for your application (you can download the Excel motor charts he provides and he'll go through it with you without rushing). Great prices, and you often get free shipping.

Pinnacle Hobby

Pinnacle Hobby in Markham is great for selection and advise as well. They will mail stuff out but don't have a great website.
The other source is here. I have had great luck buying stuff here.

If ya deadstick three times just stomp on it...It's an easier death!
