Mounting a 2 cycle engine on its side

This may seem like a silly question but...
Can a 2 cycle glow engine be mounted on its side. This setup would work best for the cowling and muffler location. The plane was designed for a .52 OS 4 cycle and they have it mounted sideways. Also When mounted Vertically the Spinner doesn't line up with the centerline of the airplane??? Any help would be great.

Sure can, alot of planes require all sorts of different angles for the engine to be mounted. If the engine doesn't line up then you may need to re-drill the firewall and align the engine correctly.

Good Luck.

Any position works well except straight down. If required to point head straight down, rotate it a few degrees to prevent plug fowling.

I've mounted engines under the beams of the mount to help line up with the center of the cowl. Not sute if this would work in your situation.

Personally, I think that side mounting glow engines is the best way to mount them for a number of reasons. Fitting in the cowel already mentioned. Also, mounted sideways, the center of the carb is just about exactly lined up with the center of the fuel tank. Perfect for fuel draw!

Also, the muffler is lower, blowing the exhaust out the bottom of the cowel and away from the plane as much as possible.
