Airbrush Painting

I'm looking for information (advise) about painting my models with an airbrush. My buddy just painted the invasion stripes in my 1/5 P-51 with an airbrush and it was perfect. His first time using an airbrush. We want to know if others are doing this and if we can get an airbrush that does a wider pattern so that we can paint the whole plane. We are using latex and we want to spray a clearcoat. Any thoughts or info on the subject will be appreciated

Jeremy from LGM Guitars is the guy to ask, I've painted two planes with a combination of airbrush and automotive touch up gun. the air brush has been great for the small lines and tough to get at areas. I just finished painting a jet with the auto touch-up gun, it's a small gravity feed gun with a 4 oz cup and has a 1mm nozzle it sprays about a 3-4 inch path very nicely. I also use water based paints and finished it with a 3 part automotive urethane...very shiny and durable, it's a little(a lot) toxic and you will need a respirator. the gun through Boss Tools in Windsor sells them for about $50 a good gun for occasional use.

I painted the plane in the attached picture with an airbrush. It was finished less than 3 weeks ago, I'm waiting for good weather now

It was my first time with an airbrush, an Iwata BCS Eclipse, a gift from my wife. I used 15 little pots of Tamiya paint diluted with airbrush medium (I don't remember the brand, but it's specially marketed as "Airbrush medium"). I did not use any paint masks at all.

When the weather gets better, I hope to take a picture in a more umm, natural surounding

As for advice, I first used Varathane floor finish (water-based) as a clear coat applied with foam brush. Found out that the clear coat would not resist rubbing alcohol, and much less glow fuel. So I then clear coated the entire thing with Krylon Acrylic laquer spray. That seems to work fine and gives pretty good results.

Also, I suppose you know this already, but keep the coats of paint very light, it's incredibly annoying to apply to thick layer a coat and see the paint start dripping. I found that setting the compressor at about 15 psi worked best for me. The paint was diluted roughly 1/2 paint, 1/2 medium.
