What town are you from? I know my LHS in Markham stocks a variable pitch prop for electrics; don't know the brand though

I was told there is no duty on model aircraft parts; but that may not stop them from re-valuing, re-classifying, damaging, and charging $5 for the privilege.

(I bought a used watch at a good price on Ebay, canrevenue removed the good price part and tore the presentation box.)

erg, nuker,

thanks for the reply. I'm from the village of Vancouver

I got several horrible experience with border tax. I ordered a kit from a hobby shop down south (no need to mention the name coz it's irrelivant) and I got dinged for duties + handling fee of CDN$15 and not just that Canadian Customs held my package for 15 days. Same thing happened to some rc parts that I ordered from a hobby shop in Japan. I don't mind paying taxes & duties but to keep you waiting for 15 days and you gonna be worried if it's lost in the wind. That's ridiculous.

$15.00 that's cheap. Kit must have had a value of under CDN$100.00. So you had 15% Tax which you know you are ALWAYS going to have to pay. There is no Duty on model airplane stuff only a brokerage fee for doing the customs clearance.

Canada post use to charge $5.00 fro the Brokerage Fee + the GST & PST, in Ontario. Now there Brokerage fee has almost doubled and gone up to $8.00. Still not to bad considering what the courier companies charge.

Course you could do what some of us do who live close to the border. Have it shipped to town/city in US close to the border, drive down pick it up and bring it across the border yourself. Be sure to declare it as they will get suspicious as to why you have been out of the country for under an hour! You only pay the GST & the PST at Canada Customs, there is NO brokerage charge since you are acting as the broker, you have to fill out the paper work yourself. Make sure you have a copy of the invoice showing what you paid for the item so they don't over value it and don't let them add the cost of shipping into the value as it shouldn't be.

Course with the price of gas these days it might just be cheaper to have it shipped directly.
