Hey, thats a good idea hillmanr2. If I understand you right, the "stiffeners" are perpendicular to the flap? That would leave an air gap between the stiffeners inbetween the sheets of balsa. It would probably work just as well to run those "stiffeners" paralell to the flap as the leading and trailing edges (the leading edge could even be beveled) so you make a "boxed in" flap. That gives me some stuff to think about as I construct my airplane!!! Thanks for sparking my thoughts

the covering will stiffen the aileron plenty, just build it flat and light and dont worry about an airfoil for 1/2A plane. good luck

My 8' cub has built up ailerons. And I thrashed that thing with the ST 90 on it. All the control surfaces are built up actually. And they are huge!

One thing. Instead of building them up, maybe just use solid stock and drill ightening holes in them. It would probably be just as strong, or stronger than gluing, and if yuo use a hard balsa, it should be fine.

Something else to consider.
